Description
The Gothic Temple at Hall Barn is a garden building that dates back to 1740, though it may have been constructed around 1725. It is attributed to the architect Colen Campbell, who also designed a Great Room for the garden at Hall Barn during that period. This hexagonal garden building is designed in the Gothick Revival style and is made of brown brick laid in English bond, with a covering of Roman cement, which is partly missing. At the time of the survey, the roof was not present.
The front features a splayed bay with three pointed arches and a crenellated parapet, while the rear has a similar splay but lacks any openings. Some sections of the parapet have been replaced with 20th-century brickwork. Inside, there are remains of a garden seat with sphinx bench ends.
