Description
The Saracen's Head is a public house of 16th-century origin, largely rebuilt in 1893 by A. Vernon. The ground floor is finished with colourwashed roughcast, the first floor has black applied boarding and colourwashed plaster, and the roof is covered with machine tiles. The ground floor features a carriage entrance with a wooden beam lintel, two modern entrances, and two 1:3:1 sash windows. The first floor has two 3-light bay windows on brackets with gables into the roof, two 1:3:1 sash windows, and a 3-light bay window extending through two storeys in the right-hand corner. A long frontage with sham timbering and stucco infill, dated 1893, is visible on the right-hand return (Nos 1, 3 and 5 Windsor End). The corner ground floor room of the front range contains heavy ceiling timbers, including a dragon beam. The building is listed for group value.
