Description

The Old Hat is a public house dating to the 17th century, with alterations made subsequently. It is constructed of whitewashed brick and has a thatched roof, half-hipped to the front gable. The building is 1½ storeys high and originally comprised two bays. It features 19th-century barred casement windows. The gable facing the street has a 2-storey 19th-century canted bay window. The south side includes a pair of casements to the right, a square bay window with a lean-to slate roof to the left, and two smaller paired casements set into the thatch, with the one on the right blocked. A central, panelled door is topped with a light. A 19th-century cottage adjoins to the west and has been substantially rebuilt, with further extensions added in the 20th century. The north side has a 19th-century lean-to with a slate roof and a six-light barred casement, along with a smaller casement within the thatch, half-leaded.
