Description
The New Moon Cafe, located at No 9 Frogmoor, is an 18th-century building constructed from plum-coloured bricks with red brick dressings. It stands three storeys tall and features a moulded and modillion cornice at the eaves level, along with an elaborately moulded and coved cornice at the parapet, which is decorated with painted anthemion ornament likely from the early 19th century. The facade has four bays with segmental-headed windows, and the upper half of the double-hung sashes includes glazing bars. The second-floor windows are distinguished by moulded brick cills and aprons with angle guttae. The ground floor has modern shop fronts topped with a small cornice. The design of this front is consistent with the four adjoining premises to the north, which are modern reproductions built after 1914. Overall, the building contributes to an impressive and effective streetscape, although further repetition of this design could lead to monotony.
