Description
Derwent Cottage and the adjacent property at Tinders End form a pair of houses, originally three cottages, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. The buildings are constructed of large blocks of coursed rubble stone, partly rendered, with some brick, and are all whitewashed. They have thatched roofs and three rebuilt brick chimneys. The houses are arranged in an irregular row, with lower two-bay blocks flanking a taller central bay. The buildings are one and a half and two storeys high. They feature barred wooden casement windows; the left block has a three-light casement on the ground floor, a two-light casement within the thatched roof to the right, and a central board door. The centre bay has two-light casements on the ground floor and three-light casements on the first floor. The right bays also have two-light casements, with three-light casements above. A board door situated between the right bays is protected by a trellis porch with a corrugated iron roof.
