Description

Linton House is a late 18th-century house located off the north side of Main Street, Linton. The house is rendered with a graduated stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and has seven bays, with a recessed half-bay on the right. Quoins are visible on the right-hand side. A set of three steps with nosing leads to the central six-panel front door, which has a fanlight and pilasters that support an entablature featuring paterae and a corniced open pediment above. The windows are plate-glass sashes within architraves. Other external features include shaped kneelers, gable copings, corniced end stacks and a ridge stack to the right of the entrance. The recessed bay to the right is not rendered and has shaped kneelers, a gable coping and a large stack to the right gable. Historical records from Netherside Hall (Threshfield) indicate the house was occupied by William Atkinson, a fringe manufacturer, who died in 1816. The interior was not inspected during a resurvey.
