Description

A farmhouse with attached outbuildings, likely dating from the late 17th century, and subject to later alterations and enlargement. The farmhouse is constructed of rough rubble stone with quoins, and has a slate roof with two original chimneys and one replacement. The main house is arranged in a single depth with two storeys, and faces south-east. The front elevation has three windows, with a lean-to porch inserted between the second and third, and a blocked doorway between the first and second window. The windows are 20th-century replacements with 15 panes of glass, stone lintels, and cills. To the left of the farmhouse is a two-storey converted outbuilding, marked by quoins at the junction with the main house, and a single-storey extension with a window in its gabled end. A barn adjoins the right side, with a further extension projecting to the front, containing a doorway and several breather holes. The rear elevation has windows in the house extension and converted outbuilding, and a largely irregular arrangement of 20th-century windows with six panes, stone cills, and lintels. A section of the barn also projects on this side.

The interior features original muntin-and-plank panelled partitions attached to the beams on both floors, as well as an original quarter-turn staircase with a closed string and plank balusters, which have been cut to resemble turned ones. There is a second staircase, and an inserted range within the barn conversion. The entrance opens into a stone-flagged passage with a plank-and-muntin partition to the left, the original staircase straight ahead, and two rooms to the left containing panelled partitions and exposed beam and board ceilings. Beyond is the barn conversion. A single room to the right has an inserted fireplace and 21st-century doors. Upstairs, there are more panelled partitions dividing two bedrooms. The roof structure was largely replaced in the 20th century following a fire which also destroyed partitions in one of the bedrooms.
