Description
Gardners Farm is a house dating back to the 16th century, with alterations in the early 19th century and minor additions in the 20th. The exterior is a mix of materials. One long side and the crosswing are timber-framed and exposed, with brick infilling and a small area of herring-bone pattern ironstone infill. The remaining walls are tile-hung in the upper part, above ironstone and malmstone (some of which is rendered), with brick dressings. The steep hipped roof has a catslide on one side, a half-hip to the wing, and is now covered in slate. A decorative stack is also present.
The house is a Wealden timber-frame design, with the central part brought forward and constructed of a lighter timber framework. It has two storeys and irregular window placement. The windows are casements, some with tiled panels and wooden mullions. The front doors are plain, one set within a boarded porch with a gabled roof and a corrugated iron covering.
