Description

The South East Barn at Charleston Farm dates from the 16th or 17th century and is constructed of coursed knapped flints with flush red brick quoins. It features an old tiled roof that is half hipped at the east end and consists of six bays, although one bay has been damaged by a recent fire. Inside, there are aisles and tie beams. This barn is a notable example of a Sussex flint and timber barn and has been depicted in several paintings by Duncan Grant. The barn is part of a group with Charleston House.
