Description
The Stables of the former Watergate House, dating from the 18th century, are situated in Compton West Marden. The building forms three sides of a courtyard and is a single storey structure. It is constructed with squared knapped flints, accented by red brick dressings, quoins, and a modillion eaves cornice. The central section, which served as the coach-house, features a projecting central element with a pediment above, containing a round window. Additionally, there is a weather-boarded clock tower with a hexagonal cupola topped by a lead-covered dome and a weather-vane. Each of the flanking wings has three windows. The house itself has been demolished, and the stables are currently unoccupied.
