Description

Turret House is a house dating back to the 17th century, with a significant refurbishment in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins, and has a concrete tile roof with stone stacks. The gables have moulded copings and kneelers. The house has a plinth and chamfered eaves band. It is two storeys high, with three bays and a double range plan. The central doorcase is chamfered and has a bracketed moulded stone hood over a 19th-century panelled door. A canted bay window with slender glazing bar sashes is on the west side, and a single glazing bar sash in a flush surround is on the east side. Above these are three plain sashes in matching surrounds. The west gable features a blocked 17th-century two-light recessed mullion window with a hoodmould. A low stone wall with square piers topped with pointed details and elaborate iron railings is attached to the front. The railings and wall are included in the listing primarily for their contribution to the surrounding group value.
