Description

A late 17th-century farmhouse and adjoining barn, now a house and barn. The building is constructed with painted stucco and has a graduated greenslate roof, with rebuilt stone chimney stacks. It is two storeys high, with three bays and a lower barn to the right. A plank door is located in the cross-passage entrance. There are two-light, chamfered stone-mullioned windows. The ground floor window on the left is a casement window within an 18th-century enlarged surround, and a small chamfered-surround fire window is located to the right. The barn has a central cart entrance with a wooden lintel. Modern windows are found on the left side of the barn, where that part of the wall was reconstructed during a survey. The property was the home of John Peel, the well-known Cumbrian huntsman, from 1823 until his death in 1854.
