Description
This is a pair of disused lime kilns, likely built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and are located on the south-east bank of the River East Lyn, approximately 200 metres east of Watersmeet House. The kiln to the south-west features a tapered square opening with a segmental stone arch at the rear and a large inverted conical opening at the top. It also has semi-corbelled openings, a large cylindrical opening at the top, and a square stack to the side. The kilns were likely supplied with limestone that arrived by sea from the South dales. Watersmeet House is situated in Countisbury civil parish.
