Description

This is a late 17th or early 18th century house with a shop. It has a timber-frame front covered in slate, although the slate-hanging was renewed in the 1980s. The roof is slate-covered, with gables facing the street. The house is three storeys high, with a garret. It has three window bays. A late 20th-century shop front has been installed. The upper-storey windows are sash windows with a thick grid of glazing bars—12 over 12 panes on the second floor, and 8 over 12 panes on the third. Shaped panels made up of playing card pips are cut into the slate between and below these windows. A prominent dentil cornice runs above the second-floor windows, and an even more prominent, enriched modillioned cornice sits above the third-floor windows. The garret windows are 20th-century casements with small panes.
