Description

The Royal Oak is an inn dating to the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with additions from the early 20th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a Cotswold stone slate roof and stone stacks. The building is a single range with three gables facing the Cirencester Road. It has a single-story basement and an attic, with three small gabled dormers to the rear lane, where the basement extends to street level. A central porch has been inserted across the middle gable, with porches also added to each side, replacing the original gabled porch. A hipped, polygonal wing has been added to the west end. The front elevation features three windows, with 19th-century sash windows. The inn has been recorded as such since 1781.
