Description
This barn, located approximately 85 metres east of Falkedon Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th to early 18th century. It is constructed of cob on stone rubble footings and features a thatched roof. The barn is oriented on a north-south axis and has opposing doorways in the center of each long wall, both flanked by short projecting midstrey walls with solid doorframes. The western doorway is full height and includes double doors, while the eastern doorway is smaller and both contain what are probably 19th-century plank doors. The western doorway is now set back behind secondary lean-to store sheds, and the thatch of the main roof extends continuously over these sheds. The main roof is gabled to the north and half-hipped to the south. Inside, the barn is open to the roof, supported by a series of A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. This barn, along with a nearby linhay, represents rare examples of traditional Devon farm buildings that still have thatched roofs.
