Description

This is a farmhouse, now a house, dating to the late 17th century, with a front range added in the mid-18th century and alterations made in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The farmhouse consists of two parallel ranges. The rear range is the original late 17th-century structure, originally a three-room plan with a through passage. In the mid-18th century, a two-room addition was built to the front, incorporating a central entrance hall and stairwell, and a service range was added to the rear, including a dairy in the lower end room. Partition walls on either side of the passage within the rear range have been removed.

The exterior is of rubble construction, with rendering and lining to the front, and whitewashed on the rear. It has a slate roof with asbestos slates on the right side, and gable stacks with pitched slates venting to the right. The house has two storeys and five windows. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows in exposed boxes, while the ground floor has four sash windows, all 20th-century replacements. A flat-roofed central porch has a half-glazed inner and outer door, with wooden benches on either side and a three-pane light on each side and a cornice. There is a wooden eaves cornice throughout.

The right return features a wide, stepped external stack with slate weatherings and a two-span roof to the lower two-storey rear range. It includes a two-light casement with a cambered head at ground and first floor, each with eight panes. The left return presents a blank gable end to the front range, alongside a 20th-century single-storey weatherboarded addition with a four-pane light and door. The gable end of the rear range has an external stack with slate weatherings.

The rear has a mix of 19th and 20th-century windows. On the first floor are three eaves-level casements: a 20th-century window on the left, two windows with eight panes each to the right, and a second 20th-century six-pane light. The ground floor includes an eight-pane casement with a cambered head on the left and right sides, a 20th-century plate glass window with a cambered head second from the left, and a 20th-century glazed porch with a half-glazed inner door second from the right.

Inside, the lower end room of the rear range, formerly a dairy, retains a stone floor sloping for drainage and stone shelves. A room in the front range on the left side has two 18th-century shaped shelves set in recesses with panelled lower doors. The open-well stair in the entrance hall has turned balusters and ball finials to plain newels. There are panelled doors throughout. A cupboard with panelled doors, bar hinges, and a drawer is located in the front left room.
