Description
The gateway and adjoining railings, located approximately 4 metres east of North Lodge, date from around 1870 and were originally part of the drive to Stevenstone House. The gateway features sandstone ashlar piers that are square in section and topped with low pyramid caps. Three piers define both a carriageway and a pedestrian walkway. On each side, there are cast iron railings set into snecked stone rubble footings, which extend forward to terminal piers that match the gate piers. The railings are noted for their attractive and unusual design, incorporating three bands of fret pattern.
