Description

This is a disused lime kiln located on the north edge of Symon's Tree Wood, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from local limestone rubble and built into a bank, allowing access from a higher level at the rear for loading. The front wall features a corbel stone at the apex. Inside, the kiln has a vaulted swallow shape, although the kiln opening at the back has sustained some damage. The circular kiln is open at the top and tapers towards the bottom, with calcified internal walls. There are short sections of retaining wall flanking each side of the front. The kiln is situated near a disused quarry.
