Description
Long Frogmore is a house, originally a range of shippons (animal shelters), stables, and a cartshed, dating from the mid-19th century. Constructed of local stone rubble, it has a slate roof with gable ends and inserted skylights.
The building is a long range with three sections facing a farmyard and with its back to the road. The right-hand section was originally a two-storey shippon, featuring three cambered stone arch doorways that have been converted into window openings, along with a loft doorway in the gable end. The central section is a projecting former stable range, now with a 20th-century central doorway and windows on either side. The left-hand end comprises a three-bay, single-storey former cartshed, distinguished by two circular stone rubble piers. Its original openings have been altered: the outer bays now contain windows, while the central bay has double doors.
Inside, the distinct original ranges remain visible, with evidence of roof timbers in the stable and shippon loft areas.
The farmstead is shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1888 and 1906. In the late 20th century, the agricultural buildings were combined to create a single dwelling.
Long Frogmore is designated at Grade II for its architectural significance as a well-preserved example of a mid-19th century range of agricultural buildings, later converted for residential use. The external facades remain largely unaltered and retain original features such as the stone rubble piers of the cartshed, the cambered arches of the shippon, and structural roof timbers. The building contributes to a notable group with a 17th-century farmhouse and other listed agricultural buildings nearby.
