Description
The Thatched Cottage is a cottage that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with some reconstruction from the 19th century. It has a whitewashed and rendered exterior, topped with a thatched roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end. There is a projecting stone stack at the right end, which has a tall brick shaft, and a rear left lateral stack. The rear wall has been rebuilt in brick. The plan of the building is unclear as there was no access to the interior during the survey in 1986, but it is likely that the cottage was originally larger and has been truncated at the right end. The cottage is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical front with one window, which is blind on the left side. The front door, located to the right of the centre, has a porch hood, and there is a two-light casement window with glazing bars to the right of the door, along with a two-light first floor casement window above. The interior was not inspected, but it is possible that early features remain, and the roof structure may be of interest, suggesting that the dating might need to be revised upon interior inspection.
