Description

Mole End is a cottage, likely dating from the 18th century, with a 19th-century extension and 20th-century additions to the rear. The walls are plastered cob on rubble footings, with stacks of stone rubble or cob, and plastered brick chimney shafts. The original design was a 3-room plan cottage facing south, with a central, unheated entrance lobby and outer rooms heated by projecting end stacks; the room on the left (west) appears to be an extension. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, hipped to the right and gable-ended to the left, with a thatched roof over the oven projection on the right-hand stack. The front has an irregular 5-window arrangement of late 19th and 20th-century casement and fixed windows, most with glazing bars, and a centrally positioned front door behind a 20th-century gabled porch. The line of the eaves rises along the left end. Inside, the exposed carpentry is plain. The roof space was not inspected. The property was formerly known as Peeks Cottage as shown on Ordnance Survey maps.
