Description
The Blagdon chest tomb and area railings are located on the south side of the tower of the Church of St Thomas of Canterbury and date from around 1867. They were created in memory of Peter Blagdon. The tomb is made of granite and features cast iron railings. It has a rectangular shape with a chamfered plinth and a lid that has a low-pitch top hipped at each end. All sides of the tomb have recessed panels. The east end of the tomb commemorates Peter Blagdon's death in 1867 and also honors John Blagdon, who died in 1781. The cast iron railings are adorned with ornate fleur-de-lys finials and decorative corner posts, all set into granite coping that has weathered over time.
