Description
This building is a shippon located approximately 12 metres north-west of Hayne Farmhouse, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from local stone and flint rubble, with a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched. The shippon, which includes a hayloft above, faces south and is built down a gentle hillside. At the right (east) end, there are small compartments separated from the main area by a full-height crosswall. The front features six unevenly spaced doorways; the rightmost doorway is square-headed, while the others have segmental arches. There are two hayloft loading hatches, one near the right end and another centrally located in the four-bay left section. Inside, the shippon has plain but neatly-cut crossbeams supporting the hayloft, and the roof is supported by A-frame trusses with cambered lap-jointed collars secured by iron spikes.
