Description

York House is a late 18th-century house situated within a row of buildings. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with a tiled roof and a brick stack to the left. The house is two storeys high with a three-window facade. The ground floor features a central door with six fielded panels, set within a flat arch with a keystone. To either side are four-pane sashes. A four-panelled door provides access to the right. The first floor has a four-pane sash window, a projecting oriel with sashes, and a further twelve-pane sash window, all with flat arches and keystones. The rear of the house includes a 20th-century lean-to extension on the left side, and an 18th-century two-storey wing to the right, featuring three-light cast-iron leaded casement windows. Inside, original doors remain with two or four fielded panels. A notable feature is the staircase with a Chinese Chippendale balustrade. The front room contains a stone fireplace surround.
