Description
Harding Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to early 17th centuries, with additions and alterations from the early 19th century. The construction incorporates brick, with the earliest sections in English bond, a roughcast facade, and a tiled roof. The main block is a two-storey, three-bay structure from the early 19th century, extended to the left by a further bay in the later 19th century, and replacing an end bay of a 16th-century house set at a right angle. A side extension and through corridor have also been added. A late 19th-century dairy and kitchen are present. The original building features a central bay projecting forward, with altered openings now including French windows and timber casement windows. The early 19th-century facade has a central five-panel door and a fanlight, and tripartite timber windows with segmental heads. A substantial brick stack, originally rendered and featuring six clustered shafts, is located at the rear of the third bay and is part of the original 16th-century construction. The interior features a central stair hall from the 19th century, with stone fireplaces, fluted fireplaces, and a moulded stone fireplace on the first floor, dating from the late 16th century. A five-bay butt purlin roof is visible, appearing to predate the stack.
