Description

Burstead House is a mid-19th century house built in a Jacobean style, situated on a prominent site facing Bellevue Road. The house is constructed of rubble stone with ashlar dressings. The ends project slightly, each featuring shaped gables with finials, while smaller gables are set back in the centre behind a plain parapet and to the right wing. Carved scallop shells adorn the gables. The main facade features rusticated quoins and three windows with raised surrounds. The first-floor windows have three lights with stone mullions and transoms, and a central single light with strapwork cresting. The ground floor has a four-light window to the right and a five-light canted bay to the left. A central, round-headed doorway is topped with an elaborate, curved cornice and keystone, flanked by Ionic pilasters. Nos. 39 to 43 (odd) are grouped together.
