Description

These are a group of cottages dating from the late 18th century to the early to mid-19th century, built with stone rubble fronts and red plain tile roofs. Numbers 81 and 83 share a single roof span. Number 81 is a one-storey and attic cottage with one bay. It has a two-light wooden casement window set into a gable in the attic, with bargeboards. Below is a sash window without glazing bars, under a lintel. A modern wooden door sits to the right, also under a lintel. A plain advertisement board is positioned above the door. Number 83 has two bays, with upper windows similar to those in Number 81. Below, there’s a sash window with a lintel to the right and a doorway with lintel to the left. Numbers 85 and 87 are two-storey cottages, each with its own roof span. Number 85 features two two-light casement windows under the eaves on the first floor. A square sash window without glazing bars is below to the right, with a plain wood door and lintel to the left. Number 87 has two two-light casements in the upper floor, and a two-light casement below to the right. A door with lintel is positioned to the right. These cottages form a group with No. 31 Newland, the east range of Sherborne House, the front and rear garden walls of Sherborne House, No. 41, The Manor House, three cottages next to The Manor House, two adjoining cottages, and Nos. 57 to 93 (odd), together with the north-east boundary wall to Newland Close.
