Description

Melbury Abbas Mill is an early 19th-century corn mill situated on Redmans Lane, Melbury Abbas (formerly known as Barfoot Mill, Mill Hollow Lane). The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar and brick dressings, and it has a slate roof that is half-hipped to the left. It is two storeys high with an irregular arrangement of windows. These windows include two- and three-light casements, some featuring full glazing bars, others horizontal glazing bars, and some incorporating leaded lights. There are three segmentally headed openings to the left of the building, with the outermost one enclosed. The ground and first floors have plank doors in the second bay from the right. An external cast-iron overshot waterwheel is located to the right, and a wall inscription reads 'E S Hindley 1875 Bourton Dorset'. The internal machinery is complete, including two pairs of millstones.
