Holy Well Attached To The South Side Of The South Aisle Of Church Of St Sampson

The holy well, dating from the late 15th century, is attached to the south side of the south aisle of the Church of St Sampson in Golant. It is constructed from granite rubble and features a lean-to stone roof that is roughcast on top. This very small single-cell building stands about one metre high and includes a sink at the bottom, with a doorway facing east. There is also an opening in the west side of the church's porch that provides covered access to the well.

The well has rubble walls resting on a roughly hewn plinth, and its lean-to roof abuts the south wall of the church. The east side features a chamfered, 3-centred arched doorway with a wrought iron gate, likely from the late 19th century. Inside, the roof is vaulted in stone, and the sink is situated below the level of the ground outside, fed by a small opening in the rear wall. A small moulded stone bracket for an image is set on the rear wall.
