Description
1 Queen's Parade Place is a former house, now used as offices, dating from around 1820 to 1830. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof with two moulded stacks on each side. The building has a double depth plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range.
The exterior includes a coped parapet that returns and rises to one stack on the right and two on the left, with a stopped entablature, a first-floor sill band, and a ground-floor platband over a timber bressumer. The first floor is highlighted by pilasters with semicircular heads and bases, recessed panels, and horizontal ovals in the friezes. The parapet has piers above the pilasters and cornice, with vertical lozenges in the panels.
The first-floor sash windows, which are horned plate glass with painted reveals, are adorned with fine cast iron balconettes featuring lyre motifs at the centre. On the ground floor, there is a six-panel door with an overlight to the right, a blank wall to the left, and two six-over-six pane sash windows with hinged external shutters in the centre.
The interior has not been inspected. This building likely represents a late Georgian rebuilding of one of the original garden houses that were constructed behind Queen Square.
