Description
The plinth, gates, railings, and overthrows in front of Cleveland House date from the early 19th century. They are made of wrought and cast iron and are set on an exceptionally tall stone plinth. The double gates feature overthrows with lantern brackets and are aligned with the entrance doors of the house, which are of the same height. On either side of the gates, quarter-circle rails create semi-circles when the gates are closed. The lower half of the pointed square-section railings splits into two and connects to the high ashlar plinth or retaining wall. The gate piers and central piers of the railings are decorated with anthemion enrichments. The three-rail overthrows are linked by two pairs of circles and are scrolled at the top to support lamp brackets.
