Description

New Bridge is a road bridge located over the river Arun, constructed in 1839. It is made of red brick and features three round-headed arches with blunt cutwaters between them. The bridge has a parapet with stone coping that curves out at each end to square brick piers. Beneath this bridge, there are older stone arches, including two round-headed and one pointed arch, which likely date from around 1500. Two of these arches were rebuilt around 1700. Additionally, there is a smaller red brick bridge to the west that crosses the Wey and Arun Canal, built between 1815 and 1818.
