Description

Syon House, originally the Rectory, is now occupied by the Vocation Sisters. The north wing dates from the early 17th century and is a timber-framed building that was altered in the 19th century. It has two storeys and five windows, currently faced with stucco and topped with a tiled roof. The end window-bays project and are flanked by pilasters, with gables above featuring scalloped bargeboards. The windows are casement style. The south wing was added around 1815 by the Rev. William Kinleside, who served as Rector from 1775 to 1836. The ground floor of this wing is faced with rusticated weather-boarding, while the first floor is tile-hung and jettied to mimic a timber-framed appearance. It has a hipped slate roof and pointed Gothic windows with Venetian shutters on the first floor.
