Description

The Old Post Office is a house dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with further development in the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and brick, with a plain-tile roof. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The main range is one storey plus an attic, while the front wing has two storeys. The front facade features a central two-panel door, accompanied by a three-light casement window to the left, all sheltered by a stone lintel. Above is a three-light dormer window. To the right, a single-unit wing projects, built with Flemish-bond brickwork. Ground floor openings have segmental arches, and on each side of the first floor is a cross window. A further cross window is located at the rear of the main range. Inside the main range is an inglenook fireplace with a winder stair positioned alongside it. The house is built onto Ward Cottage, and may have originally been part of that structure. It forms part of a wider L-shaped grouping with Ward Cottage and Coney Cottage.
