Description
The Maidstone Club is an early 17th-century house, originally known as Broughton House. It was the home of Andrew Broughton (1603-1688), Clerk of the High Court and a participant in the execution of Charles I. The house was converted into two separate dwellings in the 18th century and comprises a central section with two projecting wings. The building was refaced in the 18th or 19th century with pebbledash on the upper floors, while the ground floor is stuccoed. It has a tiled roof and a cornice and parapet. Long and short quoins are present on the wings. Four sash windows with intact glazing bars are visible. Each wing features a bay window on all floors. The doorcases include pilasters, a joint flat hood, rectangular fanlights, and six-panelled doors.
