Description

Half Yoke House is originally one house, now subdivided. The core of the building dates to the 15th century, with timber framing and an open hall, which was refaced in the early 19th century. A large mid-19th century extension was added to number 1 in the later 19th century. The rear elevation is faced with diaper brickwork on a ragstone plinth, while the other elevations are plastered. A steeply pitched roof is covered with old tiled, and features a late 16th century brick chimney stack, along with a further early 19th century external brick stack. The house has two storeys and three windows. The ground floor features tripartite 19th-century casements with cambered arches. Number 1 has an elaborate mid-19th century Gothic style porch with a tiled roof, a pendant and two-centred arched doorcase, a Gothick arch, and plain spandrels. The front of the house has three casements. An early 19th century six-panelled door has a flat wooden weatherhood on brackets. Attached to number 1 is a mid-19th century two-storey, two-bay brick extension in Flemish bond, with a tiled roof and central brick chimney stack. This extension has two 12-pane sashes with horns, blind boxes, and a gabled projection of similar date with cambered casements, as well as a projecting gabled porch. Inside, the house retains a sooted crown post roof, exposed curved braces, and two large moulded spine beams. Original features include the dais beam and moulding to the spire truss, and an original 15th-century arched doorcase with a three-plank door. There is also an 18th-century two-panelled door.
