Description
Henden Place is a 15th-century timber-framed and close-studded building located at No 15 on The Green in Woodchurch. It features plaster infilling, with the first floor of the easternmost window bay extending out over the ends of the floor joists and supported by brackets. The building has wide overhanging eaves also supported on brackets, and a very steeply pitched hipped tiled roof with end gables and a large brick chimney stack. The ground floor includes three sashes with intact glazing bars and two shallow bays.
Inside, the building contains two massive crown posts that are still partially covered in soot, a dragon beam, a dais beam, and chamfered beams on the first floor, along with some original window openings. There is a wing dating from the 16th to 17th century that features a chimney stack with two inglenooks, a bread oven, and a possible smugglers hide above.
Historically, the house was owned by the broadcloth manufacturers who also owned Hendon Place in Biddenden.
