Description
29 Swan Street is a cottage that dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with 20th-century extensions. It is primarily timber-framed and mostly covered in painted weatherboarding, while the rear wing features a brick ground floor and a tile-hung gable. The roof is tiled and has three brick chimneystacks.
The front range is two storeys high and has two windows, while the rear wing is also two storeys with one window. This is a two-bay end chimneystack house that includes a roughly contemporary T-wing. The front range showcases timber framing, painted weatherboarding, and a tiled roof, with end brick chimneystacks, the right one projecting. There are two later 19th-century tripartite wooden casements and a central wooden doorcase with a flat wooden hood supported by brackets, leading to an original four-panelled flush-panelled door. The T-wing is of a lower elevation and has one 20th-century casement. There are also 20th-century flat-roofed extensions to the left side and rear, which are not of special interest. This Kentish vernacular cottage has seen little alteration and retains its original plan form.
