Description
The Church of St Mary is a parish church located in Kenardington. It features a chancel, nave, south porch, and a west tower with a circular vice turret on its north side. This structure is all that remains of a larger church that had north and south aisles and chapels, which was struck by lightning in 1559. The chancel is about two-thirds the width of the nave and is not centrally positioned. The tower, dating from the 13th century, is situated at the north-west corner of the nave, with no direct connection between them, although there is a blocked arch on the east side of the tower that once led into the now-demolished north aisle. Both the chancel and nave are from the 15th century and feature blocked arches on the south side that led into the demolished south aisle and south chapel. The churchyard contains some 18th-century headstones adorned with cherub and skull motifs, as well as early 19th-century headstones featuring sunray motifs.
