Description
Rye Cottage is a late 14th century and 16th century timber-framed house. The older section consists of three bays, with an additional bay added at the south end. It features four pairs of crucks that terminate above the collar, while the later section is square-framed with curved struts. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has a thatched roof that is hipped at the ends, featuring eyebrows above small attic casements with two lights, one of which has tiling below the cill. The exposed timber frame includes painted brick infill, and there is a small section of painted brick walling on the north side in Monk bond. The windows are casements, including one old metal light, and there is a boarded door set in a solid frame.
