Description

The Red Lion Inn is an 18th-century public house located in Hooe village. It is a two-storey building with a symmetrical facade of four windows. The exterior is constructed of red brick with alternating grey headers, featuring a stringcourse and a modillion eaves cornice. The roof is tiled, and the original glazing bars remain intact. A large, projecting bay window with three windows is prominent on the first floor. The entrance is marked by a rusticated stuccoed doorway. According to historical accounts, the inn was a popular meeting place for smugglers, and a tobacco mill, believed to have been used by them, is still visible within the roof structure.
