Description
Ridgewood House is a two-storey building located on Lewes Road in Uckfield. The earliest part of the house is the service wing at the back, which dates from the 18th century. The main section, built around 1830, was likely designed by the Brighton architect Amon Henry Wilds. The building features five windows and is finished in stucco. It has a cornice and a high balustraded parapet, with semi-circular caps at each end that include shell decoration. The corners are accentuated with long and short quoins. At the north end, there is a bay with three windows. The entrance porch is supported by fluted Doric pilasters and includes a doorway flanked by similar columns and a triglyph frieze. A later bay has been added to the south of the porch. The glazing bars in the windows are missing. Additionally, a mid-19th century wing has been added to the southeast, which is taller and has a slate roof.
