Description
The Parish Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building located in Ninfield on Church Lane. The church features a stone nave that has been cemented over, a weather-boarded bell turret, and a brick sepulchre. It comprises a chancel, a north vestry, a nave with a north aisle, a south porch, and a west tower. The nave and tower date back to the 13th century, with the nave constructed of stone and the tower made of timber, which is weather-boarded on the outside. The tower includes a 13th-century musicians' gallery that opens into the church. The chancel was built in the 17th century using red brick. The north aisle and vestry were added in 1885 and constructed of stone. The entire church underwent restoration by Sir Arthur Blomfield between 1885 and 1887. The font is likely from the 1660s, and there is Jacobean panelling behind the altar.
