Description

Monk’s Cottage, also known as Ye Olde Monk’s House and Rother View, is a 15th-century timber-framed building with close-studded panels and plaster infilling, which was altered in the 16th century. The central part of the first floor projects outwards, supported by a moulded bressummer, while the ground floor has been rebuilt at each end using painted brick. Curved braces are visible at the north end. The roof has a steeply-pitched hip covered with tiles. Casement windows are present, and a brick chimney breast is located on the south-west wall. The cottage has two storeys and five windows. Inside, a king-post roof is visible. Behind the original cottage is a long L-shaped wing dating from the 16th century. Parts of this wing retain timber framing, while others have been refaced with tarred weather-boarding.
