Description
Potters Cottage and Old Pottery Cottage are two subdivided cottages located on Pottery Lane in Brede. The northern part, known as Potters Cottage, is a 16th-century timber-framed building that has been refronted. The southern part, Old Pottery Cottage, is an 18th-century addition. The northern section features timber framing, with the base of the ground floor rendered and tile hung above on a rendered plinth. It has a half-hipped tiled roof and a brick chimneystack. There is a 20th-century three-light dormer and a four-light casement window. The 20th-century brick and timber-framed lean-to porch has a 20th-century arched doorcase. The northern elevation is rendered with a tile-hung first floor, while the southern part is made of painted brick in English bond with a half-hipped tiled roof. The southern section has three 20th-century casements, one of which has a cambered head, and a 20th-century outshut. Inside the northern part, there are exposed ceiling beams and an open fireplace with a wooden bressummer, along with some plank doors and a roof of side purlin and wind-braced type. The southern part features a side purlin and collar type roof.
