Description

This property comprises a house and two shops, originally three cottages, located on the east side of High Street, Salehurst. The exterior largely dates to the 18th century, although the interior, particularly of number 26, retains elements from the 17th century. The building presents two storeys and attics, with a facade of four windows. Number 26 has a stuccoed ground floor and a tile-hung first floor and attic. It features a tiled roof with a large gable on the right, containing a four-pane sash window with horns in the attic. The first floor has a casement window on the left and a sash window with marginal glazing to the right. The ground floor displays a projecting 19th-century six-light shopfront to the left, alongside a four-panel door with a three-light fanlight and wooden trachets. To the right is a modern aluminium-framed window and a plank door. The left side of the building shows two parallel ranges with modern casements and a ground floor sash window, and a circular window in the gable; 17th-century timber framing is reported on the ground floor. Number 28 appears to be of 18th century origin, with a stuccoed ground floor, tile-hung first floor, and a half-hipped tiled roof. The front of number 28 has two twelve-pane sashes to the first floor and a projecting bay, a 19th-century shopfront, and two doors at ground level. The right side elevation includes an attic casement, a four-pane sash window on the first floor, and a projecting bay to the ground floor. The building has one chimney stack, constructed of cemented brick and one of brick.
