Description

Mountfield Court, originally known as Court Lodge, is a largely late 17th or early 18th century building. It is two storeys and has an attic, with nine windows visible from the front. Three dormers are present, the central one having a curved pediment and the others triangular pediments. The main part of the building is constructed of red vitreous brick with rubbed brick window dressings. Cemented pilasters are positioned to flank the centre window bay and each pair of the remaining windows. A cemented string course, cornice, and keystones highlight the windows, which are segmental-headed and contain eight panes of glass with original glazing bars. A brick parapet tops the structure, and the roof is tiled and hipped. A large, 19th-century porch was added to the centre of the front. A ground-floor addition was made in the 19th century to the east end, and a two-storey, five-window addition dating from the late 18th or early 19th century was built at the west end, using red brick with projecting end window bays. The interior features panelling and a staircase dating from 1730.
