Description
The Deacons is a house with an early 18th-century front built onto a probable 17th-century structure. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble, with some red brick infill, and has a tiled roof with brick chimneystacks at each end. The house is two storeys and has attics, presenting five windows to the front. A moulded brick parapet sits above the earlier building. Gable ends are ornamented with stone kneelers and stone ball finials, and three hipped dormers are visible. The windows on the upper floors are 12-pane sashes, but the red brick strips between them indicate that these replaced earlier, wider mullioned windows. A central doorcase features a pediment-shaped hood with brackets, an eaved architrave with paterae, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door. A crow-stepped brick chimneystack is also present. An L-shaped wing to the rear is constructed of stone rubble with red brick dressings. The interior was not inspected.
