Description
No. 5 Hill Street, formerly the Gaumont Cinema, is an early 18th-century house that stands three storeys tall and is five windows wide. It is constructed of red stock brick with red dressings. The building features a stone-capped parapet, a stone cornice below the second-floor windows, and stone keystones above the segmental arches of the windows on the first and ground floors. Inside, there is an original full-height balustraded staircase, and several rooms are fully or partially timber panelled, containing some original fireplaces. The ground floor now serves as the foyer for the cinema auditorium located in the back. The rear elevation remains intact above the ground floor.
